Narrative

Joseph Hagan took the Oath of Allegiance and Fidelity to Maryland in 1778. Joseph, his wife Catherine and only child Robert moved from Maryland to Nelson, Co, KY in 1803.
29 Nelson Co. Will Book C, p 215. Will dated 3 Feb 1814; probated 16 May 1816: "In the name of God. Amen. This 3d day of February 1814, I Joseph Hagan of Nelson Co. being weak in body but of good and sound memory thanks be to almighty God and calling to mind the uncertain state of this life and that all must yield to death when it shall please God to call, do make, ordain and constitute this my last will and Testament in manner and form following, this is, first of all I bequeath to Catherine my beloved wife my black man Allen to be disposed of her at her desease as she may think proper, also all my stock of cattle, sheep and hogs except one heifer and one ewe also. I leave tomy beloved wife also all my kitchen furniture she being liable to the payment of all my just debts in convenient times after my desease also to receive what is justly due to me the above mentioned heifer and ewe I bequeath to Mary Dant a distant relation now living with me. In testimony whereof I set my hand and seal the day and year above written Daniel King, Peter King, Cornelius King (signed) Joseph Hagan.
