Guelph gained the title of Herzog von Bayern in 1070. His marriage to Judith van Vlaanderen was annulled, repudiated by Guelph, and he married a second time. He was deposed as Duke of Bavaria in 1077. He succeeded to the title of Herzog von Bayern in 1096.
