Narrative
Niall was a member of the House of Cenél nEógain. In 823 he routed the Vikings near Lough Foyle. In 823 he deposed his cousin Murchad and took over the Northern Kingdom. He succeeded to the title of High King of Ireland in 833. In 835 he routed the Norse invaders twice. In 840 he routed Feidhlmidh, King of Munster. In 843 he routed the Vikings again. In 846 he routed the Norsemen once again, but drowned in the River Caillain while in pursuit.
