Áed also went by the nick-name of Áed 'Findliath' (or in English, White-Hair). He succeeded to the title of High King of Ireland in 862. In 866 he defeated the Norsemen near Lough Foyle. In 868 he defeated the Meathmen and Leinstermen at Killaderry.
