Narrative

Margaret succeeded to the title of 3rd Countess of Angus in 1361, suo jure. As a result of her marriage to Thomas, 9th Earl of Mar, Margaret Stewart was styled as Countess of Mar. She resigned as Countess of Angus, in favour of the natural father of her children, passing the title to son George Douglas, reserving for herself the frank tenement thereof for life on 9 April 1389.
