Narrative
Catherine was the common law wife of William Johnson. She had come to America as an indentured servant from the Palatinate region of Germany. According to tradition, William bought her indenture so she could serve as housekeeper, but soon entered a relationship with her. They had three children, even while William fathered numerous children by other women. Her son John was claimed by William and later inherited his lands and titles.
