Johan Martin Spiegel immigrated to America in 1741, taking the Oath of Allegiance to the Province and State of Pennsylvania Sep 26. He arrived via the ship Molly of St Mark from Rotterdam tthrough the Port of Philadelphia. This is a discrepancy, since the Oath should have been administered to men 16 and older. So either Johan was older, or the records are incorrect.
He moved to NC with his family, along with his in-laws the Jarrett family, sometime around 1771. There were approximately 600 German families who moved from PA to NC between 1750-1800.
