Narrative

Thomas was a valiant fighter. He fought in the Siege of Tournai in 1340. He fought in the Battle of Crecy in 1346. He fought in the Battle of Sluys. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1348. He was Lieutenant and Captain of Brittany and neighbouring parts of Poitou in March 1354. He was created 1st Baron Holand [England] in March 1354. He held the office of Keeper of the Channel Islands in 1356. He was Keeper of Crocy in 1357. He was Joint Lieutenant and Captain of the Duchy of Normandy in 1359. He was Keeper of the Castle of Saint Sauveur le Vicomte in February 1359. He was Captain and Lieutenant of France and Normandy in 1360. He was created 1st Earl of Kent [England] on 20 November 1360, although he died before the Parliament he was summoned to met in session.
