Narrative
Reginald was the ancestor of the Macdonalds of Clanranald and the Macdonells of Glengarry. He held the position of 1st Chief and Captain of Clanranald. In 1372 he received by charter from his father the Isles of Eigg, Uist and Harris, and Arisaig (known as the Rough Bounds), and the lands of Sunart, Letterlocket, Ardyour, of Howlaste, to be held as the Lords of the Isles. On 1 January 1373 his charter as Lord of the Isles was confirmed by King Robert II. In 1386 he renounced his succession to the Lordship of the Isles in favour of his half-brother Donald.
