Narrative
In 1457 John was granted a charter incorporating his lands into the (territorial) Barony of Luss. In 1458 he was granted a charter of forestry of Rossdhu and Glenmuckerne. He held the office of Sheriff of Dumbarton. He held the office of Comptroller of the Royal Household [Scotland] between 1464 and 1466. In 1465 he was granted a charter of forestry of Kilmardinny. In 1474 he was the envoy sent to negotiate marriage between the Scottish heir apparent and Cecilia, daughter of King Edward IV. He held the office of Keeper of Dumbarton Castle in 1477. He was killed by a cannon ball during the Siege of Dunbar Castle in 1479.
