Jackey, John Sr
| Birth Name | Jackey, John Sr |
| Gender | male |
| Age at Death | 85 years, 4 months, 24 days |
Narrative
Per the reminiscences of a descendant, found online, possible name Peggi Bacci:
"John Jackey is my great great grandfather also. His youngest daughter, Anna - was my great grandmother. She always told me that John, her father had come across the ocean in a boat along with his mother, 3 sisters & brother from Paris, France. John was 16 years old at the time they came to the US and it had taken about 6 months for the trip across the sea.
Once he came to Louisville, he met a man who owned fruit orchards whose last name was Denunzio. Mr. Denunzio gave John a job working in the orchards on apple trees. He & Mr. Denunzio became friends and he helped John when he was ready to build a home on his own land. Mr. Denunzio let John use his slaves to help build his home. This was located near what is now Waverly Hills. (you can read my notes in Anne Schuble / Jackey Family Tree)"
Margaret Jacquet (abt 1807-????) came with her children John (1827-1912), Louisa (1830-1875), Cecilia (1837-????), Unknown male child (1842-????) and Charles (1843-1926) from the Alsace region of France between 1843 and 1850. They settled for a short time in Batavia, OH (1850 Census) then moved between 1851 and 1856 to the Louisville, Ky area. No mention of the father, presumed deceased.
The family changed the spelling of the surname to Jackey by the 1850 census. The census taker might have done this for them judging from thier spelling ability and the fact that Margaret is listed as illiterate.
