Alexander was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1488. He held the office of Warden of the East Marches between 1489 and 1496. He held the office of Keeper of Stirling Castle in January 1489/90. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Lord Home circa 1491.
