"William was the son of William Rose and Amy Langston. He married Elizabeth Merritt of Granville County North Carolina. They had 11 children 4 sons and 7 daughters. William served as an Ensign for 18 months in the Revolutionary War from North Carolina under Capt. Bartlet Scearcey. Since the Revolutionary War he moved his family to Pendleton Co. South Carolina then to Powell's Valley Kentucky finally settling for the last 17 years of his life in Whitley County Kentucky where many of his descendants including my grandfather Lawrence Rose remain today."
